Marathi, Marathi, Marathi, Am I not living in India?? I have begun to feel discriminated against in my own country. I look around, I have no one to complain to. How I wish I was in US and I would have filed a law suit against being discriminated. If I had to be discriminated against than I would rather have lived in the first world, where was the need of toiling away 12 years of hard labor in return for being called an outsider? I look at my counterparts in the US, they have more rights & privileges in the US then I have over here.
We belong to a segment of Indians that returned to India after higher education trusting the Era of reform's transitioned by Rajiv Gandhi. With dreams of India shining we all wanted to contribute to the new Shanghai in Making. 12 years down the line, the dream is still very much a dream, in-fact even more distant one. We've all made our best contributions but Shanghai never got built.
Our Social Science professor during MBA would tell us, No one can stop India's progress except for her own people, history has proved it once and they are very capable of doing it again. At the time I simply decided to dislike him, brushing him aside as a racist Englishman.
Ever since I read today's news about through knowledge of Marathi being compulsory for all those seeking jobs as cabbie's in Mumbai, combined with the current political scenario created by Raj Thackery & his followers, his words are ringing like alarm bells to me. We should all learn and respect our local heritage but isn't Hindi our national Language?
It saddens me to see Mumbai going the TN way rather than the Gujarat way. Narendra Modi, a man I have little faith in due to the riot carnage, has managed to turn the image of his state around. Gujarat is an investors haven & businessmen have faith in his vision. I read somewhere that he spends about a month with his cabinet in the rural ares of Gujarat to understand the local issues and provide socio-economic solutions. Something alien to the leaders of Maharashtra. They feel language is the only issue of concern, if everyone speaks Marathi all problems will vanish....disappear!! Great Going Guys!!
I don't know what I am loosing hope in my country, my constitution, my leaders or my state. The point is I am loosing hope and my patience is running out. And all I can do is write about it!
